The First Great Quintet operated from 1955 to 1958, and the Second Great Quintet from 1964 to 1969. Outside those periods there were other quintets, including one that performed between 1968 and 1970 but never recorded a studio album.

Miles In France 1963 & 1964 is the eighth volume in The Bootleg Series, a box set of eight LPs issued by Columbia in the US in 2024.
