Alcest | Shelter | CD

Alcest is a French band created by Neige in early 2000. It began as a solo project, and a few months later other musicians joined him, turning it into a band. The group started out playing raw black metal, but after the first demo, Tristesse Hivernale, its sound took on strong post-rock and shoegaze influences, and its direction and concept shifted towards more intimate themes. Neige chose the name for its ethereal sound.

Shelter is a 1 CD album by Alcest, released in 2014 by Prophecy Productions in Germany. The album is listed in dream pop, shoegaze and post rock styles. Neige wrote the music and lyrics and is credited with vocals, guitar, bass and glockenspiel among other parts. Martin Koller produced the album, and the strings are played by Sólrún Sumarliðadóttir on cello, Edda Rún Ólafsdóttir on viola, and Hildur Ársælsdóttir and María Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir on violin.
