Claudio Monteverdi | IL Ritorno D Ulisse | DVD

Claudio Monteverdi's music connects the expressive traditions of Renaissance and early Baroque composition. His vocal works give close attention to language, dramatic character and the changing relationship between voices and instruments.

Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria brings Monteverdi's expressive vocal writing into an operatic retelling of Ulysses's return. This DVD presents the Glyndebourne production with Benjamin Luxon as Ulisse and Janet Baker as Penelope. Bernard Haitink conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
