Cryptopsy is a band formed in Canada in 1992 under the name Necrosis (3), which it soon changed to Cryptopsy. The band's 1994 full-length Blasphemy Made Flesh gained it success and a good reputation in the underground, and its 1996 album None So Vile was also a success, after which it signed with Century Media Records following a live show at the Milwaukee Metal Festival. The band released Whisper Supremacy in 1998 and And Then You'll Beg in 2000, and in 2003 it released the live album None So Live, the last to feature vocalist Martin Lacroix. The band recorded the studio album Once Was Not in 2005.

Once Was Not is a reissue CD album issued by Back On Black, with a release date of 13 March 2026. Cryptopsy produced the album with Sébastien Marsan, and Lord Worm wrote the lyrics and sings. The lineup on the record is Lord Worm on vocals, Alex Auburn on guitar, Eric Langlois on bass and Flo Mounier on drums, percussion and backing vocals.
