Frank Zappa was an American composer, guitarist, bandleader, conductor, producer and filmmaker, born in Baltimore, Maryland, on 21 December 1940 and died in Los Angeles on 4 December 1993. His music combined rock with influences from contemporary classical composers such as Igor Stravinsky, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Edgard Varèse, alongside late 1950s doo-wop and rock and roll. He was also a satirist, and his lyrics were known for their humour and parody.

Poughkeepsie is an unofficial two disc release taken from a live FM broadcast at Mid Hudson Center in Poughkeepsie, New York, on 21 September 1978. The performers credited include Frank Zappa, Ike Willis and Denny Walley on guitar and vocals, Arthur Barrow on bass, Vinnie Colaiuta on drums and Ed Mann on percussion. Peter Wolf and Tommy Mars are credited on keyboards, and the release was issued by Smokin' in Europe in 2018.
