Gil Evans Orchestra, The | Out Of The Cool | 1LP

Gil Evans was a jazz arranger, composer and bandleader whose orchestral writing gave unusual prominence to instrumental colour. His ensembles combine detailed voicings with space for improvisation, allowing individual soloists to emerge from textures that draw on jazz, concert music and a broad range of tonal possibilities.

Out of the Cool presents the Gil Evans Orchestra in a programme that gives ensemble colour and improvisation equal importance. Carefully arranged instrumental textures provide the background for individual voices to emerge, allowing the music to move between coordinated passages and the freedom of jazz solo performance.
