James Galway is an Irish virtuoso flute player and teacher from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Born on 8 December 1939, he was principal flute of the London Symphony Orchestra from 1966 to 1967 and then of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, before becoming principal flautist of the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1969. He began a solo career in 1975, was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1977 and was knighted in 2001, the first wind player to receive that honour.

The Very Best Of James Galway is a compilation released on RCA Victor in 2002. The credits list James Galway as the flute player on the release.
