John Coltrane | Both Directions At Once The L | 2LP
John Coltrane was an American saxophonist and jazz composer, born on September 23, 1926 in Hamlet, North Carolina, and died on July 17, 1967 in Huntington, Long Island, New York. His early recordings were in the bebop and hard bop styles, but his lasting reputation rests mainly on the modal jazz of his classic quartet from 1961 to 1965 and on free jazz late in his career. As his life progressed, his music and outlook became increasingly spiritual.
Both Directions At Once: The Lost Album is a studio album recorded on 6 March 1963 by John Coltrane's classic quartet, with Jimmy Garrison on bass, Elvin Jones on drums and McCoy Tyner on piano. The original master tapes were lost, and the seven tracks were taken from a backup tape that Coltrane had given his wife. This deluxe mono edition is issued as two LPs, with a second disc of additional tracks, and was released by Impulse! on 29 June 2018.
