John Coltrane | From Form To Spirit (3lp Solid Gold & Solid Black) (Rsd 2026) | 3LP

John Coltrane is an American saxophonist and jazz composer, born in Hamlet, North Carolina in 1926 and died in 1967. His early recordings were rooted in bebop and hardbop, but his enduring legacy rests mainly on the modal jazz pioneered by his classic quartet from 1961 to 1965 and on the free jazz he explored late in his career. As his life progressed, his music and outlook became increasingly spiritual.

From Form To Spirit is a three LP compilation of John Coltrane recordings released by Rat Pack Records in 2026 in Europe. It is a Record Store Day release, limited to 1,500 copies, and the recordings are digitally remastered. The compilation was compiled by Antonin Marceau and Laurent Vincent and features Coltrane alongside musicians including Miles Davis, Eric Dolphy, McCoy Tyner and Freddie Hubbard. The total playing time is about two and a half hours.
