Lee Morgan | The Sidewinder | 1LP

Lee Morgan was an American jazz trumpeter whose clear tone and rhythmic assurance made him a central voice in hard bop. His recordings combine blues feeling, inventive improvisation and memorable ensemble writing, often setting lyrical trumpet lines against propulsive small-group arrangements. The Sidewinder was recorded at Rudy Van Gelder’s studio in 1963 and features Joe Henderson, Barry Harris, Bob Cranshaw and Billy Higgins. All five compositions are by Morgan, with the blues-based title track setting the album’s rhythmic character.
