Oldfield, Mike | Ommadawn | CD
Mike Oldfield is an English multi-instrumentalist and composer, born in Reading, Berkshire, on 15 May 1953. His music blends progressive rock, folk, ethnic or world music, classical, electronic and New Age styles, and more recently dance, and is often elaborate and complex in nature. He is best known for the 1973 album Tubular Bells, which established Virgin Records, and for the 1983 single Moonlight Shadow.
Ommadawn was originally released in 1975, and this 2010 remastered CD on Mercury adds tracks three to six, which were not part of the original release, along with 2010 mixes by Mike Oldfield of tracks one and two. Mike Oldfield composed the work and played many of its instruments, with The Hereford City Band conducted by Leslie Penning. Vocals are by Bridget St. John, Clodagh Simonds, Sally Oldfield and The Penrhos Kids, and African drums are played by Eddie Tatane, Ernest Mothle, Julian Bahula and Lucky Ranku.
