Tampa Red was an American blues singer, guitarist and songwriter, born on 8 January 1904 in Smithville, Lee County, Georgia, and he died on 19 March 1981 in Chicago, Illinois. He recorded alone and in the 1920s formed a team with Georgia Tom Dorsey as The Hokum Boys, and his clear bottleneck guitar style earned him the billing The Guitar Wizard. He wrote blues standards including Sweet Black Angel and It Hurts Me Too, and his bottleneck and single-string solo style inspired Big Bill Broonzy and Robert Nighthawk.
