St Georges Canzona/Sothcott | To Drive Cold Winter Away | CD
£9.00
St George's Canzona is a group directed by John Sothcott, who researched and constructed the instruments the group plays on this recording.
This CD from CRD, released in 2009, presents music for merrymaking drawn from dances, songs and carols that date from the twelfth to seventeenth centuries. The programme includes melodies from Playford's The English Dancing Master, a piece by Dowland and dances from Praetorius's Terpsichore. The musicians play early instruments including recorders, rebecs, citole and crumhorns alongside voices and percussion.
