Scruggs, Earl | Light/Live/Strike/Bold | 2CD
Earl Scruggs was an American banjo player and musician, born in Shelby, North Carolina, in 1924 and died in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2012. He is noted for perfecting and popularising a three finger style on the five string banjo, now called Scruggs style, which is a defining characteristic of bluegrass music. He first reached a mainstream audience in the early 1960s through his performance on The Ballad of Jed Clampett, the theme for the TV series The Beverly Hillbillies.
This is a 2 CD compilation of four albums by Earl Scruggs, some with the Earl Scruggs Revue, dating from 1972, 1977 and 1978. The albums are I Saw The Light With Some Help From My Friends, a live album from Austin City Limits, Strike Anywhere and Bold & New, all originally released by Columbia. I Saw The Light features Linda Ronstadt and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and the live album and Bold & New both made the US Country charts. The set was released by BGO Records in 2021.
