Anton Bruckner was an Austrian organist and composer, born in Ansfelden in 1824 and died in Vienna in 1896. He is best known for his symphonies, masses, Te Deum and motets, which are considered emblematic of the final stage of Austro-German Romanticism. Since 1868 he taught organ and counterpoint at the Vienna conservatory, and he was also known as an organ concert player. After his death his symphonic-choral compositions found acclaim in Europe and around the world.

This is a vinyl release of Bruckner's Symphony No. 9 in its four movement version, performed by the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Sir Simon Rattle. The recording was made live at the Philharmonie in Berlin from 7 to 9 February 2012, and Warner Classics released it in 2024. The performance runs for 82 minutes and uses a performing version of the finale by Nicola Samale, John A. Phillips, Benjamin-Gunnar Cohrs and Giuseppe Mazzuca, a revised edition from 2012.
