The Unthanks | Lines - Part Two: World War One | CD
The Unthanks are an English folk group from Tyneside in Northumberland, founded by sisters Rachel Unthank and Becky Unthank. The group was originally called Rachel Unthank & The Winterset and changed its name in 2009, when Adrian McNally, who had previously been their producer, joined as a musician.
This 1 CD album from The Unthanks, released on Rabble Rouser Music, is the second part of the Lines trilogy of song cycles, which focus on World War One. The songs were first written in 2014 for a project marking the opening year of the World War One centenary, and most of the lyrics are poetry from the period with a focus on lesser-known female voices. The first track features Sam Lee, the second is written by Tim Dalling, and Adrian McNally is credited as producer.
