Third Ear Band | Alchemy: 2cd Remastered & Expanded Edition | 2CD
Third Ear Band is a British experimental rock and folk cross-culture band that grew out of the 1960s London underground scene. After a July 1969 concert at the Middle Earth Club, when much of their equipment was stolen and the guitarist left, the remaining members rebuilt the group as an all acoustic band using hand drums, violin, viola, oboe, recorder and cello. The band was championed by DJ John Peel and recorded for the Harvest label. Their most famous release is the soundtrack to Roman Polanski's Macbeth.
Alchemy is a two disc release from Esoteric Recordings, a Cherry Red Records label, released in 2019. The first disc contains the original album and a BBC Radio One Top Gear session from 27 July 1969. The second disc includes recordings made in October 1968 for the Essex Music Library, first released in 1970 on the Library Album, and previously unreleased Abbey Road studio recordings from January and September 1969. Peter Jenner is credited as producer, and Glen Sweeney, Paul Minns and Richard Coff are credited as composers.
