Voïvod is a Canadian thrash metal band formed in 1982 in Jonquière, Quebec. Their music draws on NWOBHM, hardcore and progressive rock, and is identifiable by unusual time signatures, dissonant guitar chords and lyrical themes drawn from post-apocalyptic literature, cold war politics and science fiction. Denis Bélanger, known as Snake, is one of the founding members.
The Wake is a two LP picture disc set released by Alone Records in Europe in 2026, with an etched D side and a limit of 500 copies. Voïvod are credited as producers, Snake is credited with the words, and Francis Perron is credited with recording and mixing. Daniel Mongrain is credited with composing, arranging and directing the string quartet parts.
