Gary Burton | The Road To Fusion (4cd) | 4CD

Gary Burton is an American jazz vibraphonist and composer, born on 23 January 1943 in Anderson, Indiana. Self-taught on the vibraphone, he developed a style of four-mallet chording as an alternative to the usual two mallets, which led to him being regarded as an innovator, and his sound and technique were widely imitated. He retired from performing in 2017 at the age of 74, after health issues caused him to lose his perfect pitch and the ability to play at the virtuoso level he demanded of himself.

The Road To Fusion (The Classic RCA Albums) is a four disc jazz compilation by Gary Burton, released on 13 February 2026 by Enlightenment. Burton is credited with vibraphone, marimba, organ and piano, and the arrangements are credited to Burton and Gary McFarland. Other credited musicians include Sonny Rollins, Jim Hall, Phil Woods, Clark Terry and Roy Haynes.
