Maurice Ravel | Complete Works, The | CD
Maurice Ravel was a French composer, pianist and conductor, born on 7 March 1875 in Ciboure and died on 28 December 1937 in Paris. He is often associated with impressionism alongside Claude Debussy, although both composers rejected the term. His music is characterised by a refined timbre and harmonic research, and some of his orchestral works include themes inspired by Spanish folklore. In the 1920s and 1930s he was internationally regarded as France's greatest living composer.
This is a 21-CD box set of Maurice Ravel's complete works, released by Warner Classics in 2020. It includes remastered stereo and mono recordings by major interpreters from the CD and LP era, among them Martha Argerich, Jessye Norman and Sir Simon Rattle, and from the 78rpm era, including Arthur Rubinstein. Ravel himself appears as performer and artistic supervisor of some historic recordings, and Philippe Pauly is credited as compilation producer.
