Nina Simone was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, composer, arranger and civil rights activist, born in Tryon, North Carolina, in 1933. She left the US in the 1970s, moving first to Barbados and later to other countries before settling in France, where she died in 2003. Recorded in 1985 after a break from recording and time spent living in Barbados and Liberia, the album features original Simone compositions with horns and backing vocals from The Waters Family.
