Cecil Burleigh | Music for Violin and Piano (Schiff, Barranger) | CD

Cecil Burleigh was a composer and violinist whose chamber music gives the violin and piano closely related roles. His writing develops melodic lines through contrasting textures and accompanying figures, with the performers shaping the pieces through phrasing, articulation and instrumental dialogue.

Music for Violin and Piano presents Cecil Burleigh’s chamber writing in performances by violinist Zina Schiff and pianist Mary Barranger. The thirty-nine indexed selections bring melodic detail and exchanges between the two instruments into focus, moving through contrasting short pieces and grouped compositions.
