Davis, Miles | Essential Miles Davis | 2CD
Miles Davis was an American trumpeter, bandleader and composer, born in Alton, Illinois on 26 May 1926 and died in Santa Monica, California on 28 September 1991. His career spanned five decades and included several major developments in jazz, among them the creation of the hard bop style in the mid-1950s and, in the late 1960s, the introduction of electronic instruments and rock and funk rhythms into his music. Around 1975 he took a hiatus over health and personal problems, returning in 1980.
The Essential Miles Davis is a 2 CD compilation reissue released by Columbia in 2010. The set consists of previously released material. Miles Davis plays trumpet, with John Coltrane and Wayne Shorter on tenor saxophone, Cannonball Adderley on alto saxophone, and Herbie Hancock and Red Garland on piano. Gil Evans is credited with arranging and conducting, and Bob Belden, Michael Cuscuna, Seth Rothstein and Steve Berkowitz are credited as compilation producers.
