Sir Adrian Boult | Elgar: Enigma Variations / Holst: The Planets | CD

Sir Adrian Boult was an English conductor especially associated with British orchestral repertoire. His performances develop the relationship between melodic lines, rhythmic movement and ensemble balance, bringing the orchestra's contrasting instrumental sections into a coherent reading of the score.

The Planets / Enigma Variations brings Sir Adrian Boult's performances of Holst and Elgar together on CD. The orchestral programme develops the composers' contrasting themes through changing instrumental colours, rhythmic movement and ensemble dynamics.
