The Searchers grew out of the skiffle group The Army Generations, formed by guitarist John McNally in 1955, and were originally the backing group for singer Johnny Sandon before deciding to branch out on their own. Pye Records recording manager Tony Hatch signed them after hearing a demo, and their cover of The Drifters' 1961 hit "Sweets For My Sweet" was their first song and reached No. 1. The band performed what were intended to be their last shows in 2019, returned for farewell tours of the UK in 2023 and 2024, and announced their retirement on 22 March 2025.

Needles And Pins is a 1 CD compilation by The Searchers released on the Sanctuary label, with the year given as 2004. It is a reissue of a 1971 compilation that was first released on the Hallmark/RCA label.
