Daniel Hope made the documentary Celtic Dreams: Daniel Hope's Hidden Irish History, which grew out of his fascination with Irish culture. His paternal great-grandfather left Waterford for South Africa in the 1890s, and although Hope has never lived in Ireland, the album reflects his connection to the country.
This single-disc CD is Irish Roots by Daniel Hope, with compositions by Ina Boyle, Turlough O'Carolan, Domenico Scarlatti, Henry Purcell, Johann Sigismund Kusser, Ross Daly and Antonio Vivaldi. Guest artists include Lúnasa, harpist Siobhán Armstrong, flautists Sir James and Lady Jeanne Galway, singer Rea Garvey, Ross Daly and Simos Papanas, with the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Daniel Geiss. The album grew from Hope's interest in Irish culture, which also led to the documentary Celtic Dreams: Daniel Hope's Hidden Irish History.
